The position of Nurse within the 3L Care family is a very big and rewarding role. Our Nurses lead each shift by example and are responsible for the care and nursing that is given during that shift. The Nurse leads and manages the staff team who are a dedicated and established group of carers who are extremely highly trained in their craft. Our Nurses are empowered to make a difference and enable change for the benefit of the people that they care for.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To work to the National Minimum Standards for Care Homes (Government document).
  • To assist in maintaining the standards required by Care Quality Commission
  • To work within the laws of Health and Safety.
  • To provide supervision and training to junior staff.
  • To assist Senior Manager in the management and organisation of the home.
  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of individuals and their families.
  • To undertake duties which will involve direct nursing/non-nursing care.
  • Ensure that the nursing care and practices in the Home reflect the care needed for people with complex health needs/ learning disabilities and acquired brain injury.
  • Provide 24 hour on-call to the home on a rota basis. (if deemed appropriate and agreed in advance by Manager)
  • Be a point of contact for families and professionals providing a very ‘hands on approach’.

Clinical

  • As directed by line management, contribute to the effective and efficient day to day leadership and management of the service.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the Company aims, objectives and initiatives in a positive and cohesive manner.
  • Ability to research and provide evidence based care; to maintain accurate and up to date records of all aspects of care to promote continuity of care that reflects standards of best practice.
  • Collect, collate and report information and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide support and point of contact to parents, families and carers.
  • Provide and complete various assessments of care needs; instigating emergency procedures where necessary.
  • Provide staff support and deal with any enquiries/concerns; ensure regular reviews, supervision, appraisals, performance management and record accurately.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with families and individuals with empathy and sensitivity. Share sensitive information with parents/carers.
  • Knowledge of care procedures gained through training: qualifications/nursing qualification/social work/research/mandatory and evidence based practice; seeking help when needed from professional and outside agencies
  • Work with and manage other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate good working relationships.
  • Contribute to the achievement of positive outcomes in a timely manner, in response to any requirements generated by regulatory bodies or internal quality assurance processes.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a high quality service whilst promoting a positive culture and ethos of 3L Care.
  • Promote a culture of change and innovation with the aim of improving the quality of care.
  • Promoting and maintaining standards to deliver a safe, sound and supportive environment for all individuals.
  • As a named nurse, take responsibility for the application of a person centred care planning process, likewise contribute to admissions and rehabilitation processes within the service; promoting a home from home environment.
  • Ensure assessments are completed in a timely and inclusive way, promoting service user and family involvement.
  • Sustaining an environment that promotes positive behavioural support and meaningful activities.
  • To provide effective clinical leadership, coaching and direct supervision to the staff team – maintain effective communication, aware of staff development, skill mix & competencies.
  • Participating and organising various meetings & training; ensure safe working practices; undertaking specific projects where appropriate.
  • Provide safe and effective medication management
  • Contribute to the effective, efficient and management of the rota, ensuring they reflect the needs of individuals.
  • Contribute to the preceptorship of newly qualified nurses
  • Ensure appropriate use of company assets within the service e.g; computer software etc., in accordance company policy and procedures.
  • Proactively promote partnership working with other relevant others; promoting good working relationships within the working environment and outside agencies.
  • Contribute to the marketing of the service as required by the Company.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to maintain a network of communication between other professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures relating to the service.
  • To purchase aids and equipment and maintain stock levels with effective management of a budget.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner; ability to organise and prioritise own workload, aware of time management and delegate effectively to staff.
  • Provides effective I.T skills and answers and deals with telephone calls/messages and enquiries appropriately.
  • Follow company systems in relation to new referrals, bookings, assessments and plans.
  • Take an active role in delivering high quality care in the home.

Managerial/Leadership

  • Fulfil the role of nurse to include monthly checks, fire safety checks, Health and Safety checks.
  • Contribute to the development of services.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Maintain health, safety and security and record and report any concerns.
  • To undertake supervision of junior staff and keep up to date records.
  • Provide assistance in auditing of service.
  • Plan and chair various meetings
  • Implement and maintain new systems, ensuring tasks are completed at appropriate times.

Education and Development

  • Report and document all actions appropriately to maintain safety for all individuals, staff and visitors.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: NURSE

Qualifications

  • Nursing qualifications/Social Work qualifications.
  • I.T / Telephone Skills.
  • Ability to undertake NVQ4 in Leadership and Management.

Experience

  • Experience working with people with complex health needs/LD/ ABI, minimum 12 months.
  • Experience of teaching junior staff.
  • Experience of attending multi-disciplinary meetings and reviews.

Skills/Attributes

  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Ability to engage with families.
  • Basic IT skills inc. E-mail.
  • Basic knowledge of professional and social care issues.
