Why did you want to work at 3L Care?Previously I worked as a support manager for able-bodied people with learning difficulties – assisting them in their daily activities. It was a great job but I was really interested in the more intensive care required for people with complex health needs who need respite or full-time residential care. What is the best thing about your job?Without a doubt it is the people I work with; my colleagues and the young adults in our care. Because we all come from different backgrounds everyone adds something unique to the environment. The facilities here are absolutely amazing and offer so many different avenues to engaging and entertaining residents and day visitors. A custom-built pool, cinema and sensory room are certainly far from standard despite the numerous benefits to the welfare of people with complex health needs. At 3L Care no one spends the day in a chair, watching TV. The enthusiasm of the staff and state of the art facilities mean each day can be different and packed full of life enriching experiences. Tell us about a typical working day…I approach each day with the ambition to make it just what the people in my care want it to be – almost like a holiday. It’s about listening and communicating. We are all able to make choices about most things we do, or don’t do, and our service users should have that same option. That starts from getting up and ready for the day in their own pace and on their own terms. Some of our young people enjoy helping out with the housework and cooking so they help me make breakfast. Others take a more leisurely approach and enjoy relaxing on the waterbed and listening to music. For those who like to stay up late we might spend the evening unwinding in front of the TV or in the cinema. What does ‘Live Love Laugh’ mean to you? It’s all about making the most of every single minute of every single day. Tell us two lies and one truth about yourself…I’d love to run a marathon. I once won a karaoke competition. I am a karate black belt. |
